Golf Alabama

Alabama is for golfers. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail proves it. Entering Alabama from most any main thoroughfare will put you in front of a golf course. The state has a truly impressive line-up of courses waiting for you. A newly opened course on the RTJ Golf Trail can be found looking out over the Tennessee River near Florence. The 36-hole facility offering two championship courses which can span over 8,000 yards. Or come in to Birmingham and enjoy 54 holes at Oxmoor Valley. No matter where you turn in Alabama, there’s a golf course waiting for you. In fact, the Robert Trent Jones trail boasts no more than 2.5 hours between courses across the state and most often far, far less travel time than that

At least 135 cities in Alabama offer golf courses, many of them having several courses each. From Albeville to York, with Army forts and Air Force bases in between, Alabama is one golf-crazy state!

Sporting average winter lows of no lower than 53 and highs no hotter than 91 in the summer, Alabama is a pleasant, green, likely state for a winter golf destination. The state is actively looking for tourism; they go out of their way to lay out the red carpet in welcome. Green Fees along the Trail are reasonable, discounts of more than half off are in place during the winterest months, and a 60% rate is available for 9 holes. Cart fees are also kept low along the Trail, making an inviting prospect of it. It’s a rather pleasant way to explore a state, and a novel approach in attracting visitors to their championship courses.

Marriott Shoals is amongst the stops along the Trail, an enjoyable course with comfortable, luxurious accommodations in Florence, Alabama. Kiva Dunes, which was designed by U.S. Open champ Jerry Pate, is right on the Gulf of Mexico. Craft Farms offers may be the mother of all Alabama golf courses. Its 54 holes are comprised of Arnold Palmer’s Cotton Creek and Cypress Bend, and Larry Nelson’s The Woodlands. Baldwin County, near Mobile, Alabama, offers up Steelwood Golf Resort, Timbercreek, Rock Creek, The Peninsula, and Glenlakes. You’ll find Timbercreek along the north side of I-10. Each of them plays its part in putting Baldwin County amongst the Top 10 golf destinations in the country! For simpler fare, enjoy 18 holes at the consistently well-ranked Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery. (Just remember, it’s closed on Tuesdays.) All in all, it doesn’t take long to figure out why the rural and unlikely state of Alabama is a true a golfer’s paradise.

Amongst the local tournaments held in Alabama are the Regions Charity Classic, the Spring Fling Junior College Golf Tournament, and the annual Golf Tournament for Veterans Military Museum. Local support means a lot to these courses, and the people of Alabama.

Great golf may not yet be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Alabama, but playing a few of the great courses along the Trail will make a believer out of you...
