Many may not realize that The Granite State has a seacoast. Indeed it does, and the Sagamore-Hampton, a public golf club, is a friendly example of the sort of courses which can be found there. The adjacent school can help you improve your skills – and you’ll need them on both the 9th and 18th holes.

Golf Digest Magazine gives this next course, Baker Hill, the #1 spot in the state. Designed by Rees Jones and Keith E. Evans, it’s a relatively new offering, having opened in 2001. A standard 7000 yard par 72 championship course, this one is found in the Lakes region of New Hampshire, to the north from Sagamore-Hampton, in Newbury.

A different source claims Passaconaway Country Club in Litchfield deserves top position. The course rating is 73 with a slope rating of 132 on Blue grass. Designers Brian M. Silva and Geoffrey S. Cornish, brought their vision to life in 1989.

Next in line is the award-winning Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club. A private, 18-hole championship course designed by the incomparable Clive Clark, this 7000 yard par-72 course has been beautifully built into the birch and pines of the White Mountains, and rests some 200 feet above the lake itself. The amenities are all first-class, with an understated richness. Clark has been respectful of the land and its history while creating an elegant course worthy of a vacation destination all by itself.

Donald Ross designed the 18-hole championship Panorama course, resting it upon the breathtaking western slope of Keazer Mountain. The holes flow across the mountainside’s natural splendor, providing that rare combination of both challenge and leisure at all levels. Additionally, The Balsams offers up a 9-hole executive course, the Coashaukee, alongside the hotel itself. Less challenging, it serves beginners well, and provides a warm-up or second play opportunity. Not to be missed is their golf school, offering phenomenal rates with PGA pro instruction.
