Golf in Quebec Province, Canada

Quebec province is a rather massive area encompassing the cities of Quebec and Montreal, as well as half of Ottawa. Golfers who visit this oldest region of Canada will be pleasantly surprised to find that the game does more than live on in Canada In fact, the very oldest golf course in North America was established in Quebec province in 1873, at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. It is said that the game came over with Scotsmen who immigrated to Canada, and that the earliest tournament may have been in 1826, held in accordance with Scottish tradition Christmas and the following New Year’s Day, at Priests’ farm near Montreal.

In all, Quebec province has some 250 golf courses. Not surprisingly, Montreal’s courses are amongst the top ten. Visit the Chateau Frontinac, an old fortress turned into a grand hotel. Enjoy truly old-world fine dining and extraordinary service and hospitality. (You may even want to return during the winter months for skiing and the Ice Festival!) While on your golf vacation, be sure to visit L’Île d’Orléans for a memory-making round.

Just 15 minutes from Quebec City is Mount-Tourbillon, an 18 hole par 70 course at the base of a mountain. Offering up 6010 verges (yards), Mount-Tourbillon has golf club & electric golf cart rentals, a training green, a restaurant, a boutique, and offers lessons. Once again, the old world charm makes such courses quaint and pleasant, even when they’re challenging.

If you’re on the western side of the province, the more modern city of Montreal will most likely be your host. There, too, you’ll find a generous number of golf courses of outstanding quality, in incomparably pleasant settings that delight the senses nearly as well as the game itself. Easily accessible by plane, train or car, you’ll find yourself quite at home anywhere within the province.

Much of the inhabited portions of Quebec province are on or near water, which makes for a rich green environment.
