Mammoth Lakes - June Lake

The Mammoth Lakes area is home to great California golfing in the summer with mountain views, high elevation and warm temperatures. This is a mountainous area, with two local courses that are the highest in the state, and a climate with average temperatures in the 70s. The top temp rarely goes above the 80s in the summer which is ideal for golfing, with the coolest nights lingering around 40 degrees.

Golf courses in Mammoth Lakes are the Sierra Star golf course and the Snowcreek Resort 1 course. Sierra Star is an 18-hole course that’s been open since 1999. It’s located at the Sierra Star Golf Course facility and offers players over 6,700 yards of great golfing. The slope rating of the course is a 133 and the course can be played up to a par of 71. It’s an alpine course that along with the Snowcreek Resort course, are the courses with the highest elevation in California, though Sierra Star is the one that boasts the very highest elevation. Sierra Star offers area golfers a real challenge with a changing course while it refreshes with its fantastic mountain view. More experienced golfers in the area tend to prefer Sierra Star over the other local golf course, the Snowcreek Resort 1 course. This beautiful if small course is located at the Snowcreek Resort Golf Course facility.

This course is a 9-hole course offering par up to 35, over almost 3,300 acres from the longest tee. It has a slope rating of 124 and has been opened since 1991. Snowcreek is designed for golfers from beginners to advanced and doesn’t offer quite the challenges that you’ll find at Sierra Star. Guests of the resort get automatic discounts, but the many locals who play here can get frequent player passes and coupons. It’s surrounded by Mammoth Meadow and offers a terrific view of the White Mountains. Golf is seasonal in Mammoth Lakes, but you can even hit both courses easily thanks to the free shuttle service that runs during the summer and fall.

Because there are only two golf courses in Mammoth Lakes, you’ll always want to book your golf outings early as first come/first serve is the general rule. And look into golf coupons, season passes and frequent player discounts available at both courses so you can get the most out of your time on the fairway.
