Sliding into the Top 100 for Texas is Horseshoe Bay Resort’s Ram Rock course. A Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design this course opened in 1972 and offers up 6,926 par-71 yards of golf with a course rating of 74.5 and a slope rating of 140 on bent grass. While it is only open to hotel guests and members, which makes it a great golf vacation destination. Located Northwest of Austin in the hill country, this area is arguably one of the most picturesque in the state. Within the same resort are Apple Rock and Slip Rock courses, as well as an executive course, for a total of 54 well-sculpted holes what a great place to start off or end up a vacation!

While down in the hill country, you’ll want to play at the Falconhead Golf Course near Austin. This is a public PGA Tour Signature Series CourseTM ; the entire course layout meets the precise standards of the PGA, so the course is the same one the pros play on, at rates most any golfer can afford. With as much as 7300 yards of par-72 golf on a course rated at 75 with a slope rating of 129, you can expect to enjoy the way that the course has been carefully molded into the hills, nooks and crannies of the natural terrain. Water hazards and 29 bunkers make for a pleasant but challenging course which will require several skill elements, while providing 4 to 6 tee sets, so that it’s enjoyable for all levels of player.

Another beautiful course carved into the hills around Austin is Barton Creek Resort’s Fazio Foothills course. As you’ve probably guessed, this is a Tom Fazio design. Opened in 1986 and then redesigned by the same genius to make the course more technically challenging in 2004, the course is now 7,125 yards of par-72 golf with a rating of 74.2 and a slope rating of 135. That doesn’t begin to describe the visual delights of this course. With 5 tee sets, you’ll find all levels of players can enjoy it, but the new design is going to push for longer, more accurate drives. #4 on Golfweek’s list of the top 50 resort courses, #1 Best Resort Course in Texas, with several listings for Best or Most Beautiful hole to its name, this is a distinctive and consistently exciting course for all players to enjoy.
